The Stand Comedy Club, Edinburgh (Sunday)

Every Sunday lunchtime, the Stand in Edinburgh offers 2 hours of free improv comedy - and last Sunday I went along to see it. Being free I thought the comics can't be that good, but also being free they can't be that bad either! And they weren't! Sat there with a cheap plate of yummy nachos and a pint of decent cider - I was pleasently entertained for about 2 1/2 hours, even though none of my improv suggestions were actually used. Highly recommended! http://www.thestand.co.uk/shows.htm

The Bad Ass

On Tuesday eve I took the folks (who were visiting) to The Bad Ass down Rose St for a bite to eat. Very nice and chilled inside, but for a veggie like me the menu was a tad disappointing, with only 2 vegetarian options. The one I chose was very nice though, but for some reason they decided to give me about 5 potatos worth of mash as a side - how the hell is someone meant to eat even a small portion of that as well as the main meal?!?!

But, anywhere that gives you a rhubarb and custard lollypop at the end of the meal is ok with me :)

To Clarify...

I know this blog is called The Scottish Rambler, and you'd expect me to be telling you about walks etc, but so far it's been all pubs, clubs and grub. Well, I see this as rambling of a kind, or maybe my writing style could be called rambling too, but I do intend to write more about walks and trips to wonderful places in the highland when I actually get round to doing them, which to be honest will most likely be when it's a bit warmer :)

See, that was pretty rambling wasn't it!

The Caves, Edinburgh

The Caves is a night venue in Edinburgh that's situated in a massive vaulted what must have been wine-cellar or something - and as a result it's positively dripping with atmosphere! We watched a few bands here on friday (17th) and had a great olde time. Downstairs they have a dancefloor and bar (though watch your head if youre a tall bod like me, or you'll be taking chunks out of it). Upstairs they have another bar, some nice comfy collapsing leather sofas, dripping candleabras and a little balcony where you can watch the dancefloor below. I'll certainly be going back, they have a night named 'Departure Lounge' which sounds pretty good: http://www.departurelounge.me.uk/whats_on.htm

Henderson's Bistro

Took a lovely lady out to Henderson's Bistro on Thursday. It's a really chilled out place with excellent grub, but not too sure about their choice of music - seemed to be either Bob Marley or Michael Jackson!?!

Give em a try for a pretty inexpensive and healthy meal - plus there are plenty of pubs within stumbling distance if you've overfed yourself (as I may have!). http://www.hendersonsofedinburgh.co.uk/bistro.html
